Treasure in the Chinese Medical herbs--Cordyceps

Traditional Chinese herb medicine plays an important role in the long history of human beings. Cordyceps is the gem among the sea of thousands of medical herbs. The price of Cordyceps skyrockets in recent years. In less than 20 years, the price of Cordyceps per kilogram rises from 54 RMB to the current surprising 22,000 RMB. This is almost a miracle.

This is no surprising if the medical use and effect of Cordyceps is counted in. It may invigorate the kidney and lung, improve breath to relieve asthma, eliminate phlegm, stop bleeding and supplement life essence.

The Cordyceps grows on the Tibet Plateau and the Yungui Plateau where temperature is very low. It's a kind of fungus parasite grow on the larva of a kind of moth. This fungus grows only in natural ground without any pollution. The herborization of Cordyceps is carried out around the Summer Solstice every year.

The Cordyceps on Shanghai market is now divided into three ranks. First-class large Cordyceps is 22,000 RMB per kilogram. The second rank is 18,000 and the third is 12,500 to 15,000 RMB per kilo.

As it rarely snowed on the west plateau last winter, the herborization of Cordyceps is affected. Large first-class Cordyceps becomes rare. Average quality drops. Despite of shortage in supply, export demand is eager and large. This will hold the price high in this year.

Cordyceps should be taken in two ways preferred. One is cook slowly and carefully for one hour and take 3 to 5 grams a day. The second method is cook 10 to 30 grams every time with old ducks, eat the duck and drink the soup.
